on the winding road

Several years ago I read this quote by Joseph Campbell in the Brene Brown book Braving the Wilderness: “If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it’s not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That’s why it’s your path.”

I’ve been lucky enough to be putting those words to the test, and have found my path to be a bit winding. I feel a strong sense that I’m on my way to where I want to be, that I’m on course. But boy have I taken some turns that are hard to explain. Starts and stops, experiments that might seem wasted, and forward momentum that somehow translates into inches gained instead of yards.

Truth be told I’m grateful for the slow progression, as long as I can trust the feeling that tells me I’m truly on my way. A gradual journey is exactly how I would want it
— I just need a reminder of that from time to time, when an urgency to already be at the finish line presses in on me.

This artwork represents being on that kind of winding path. Have you ever experienced something similar?
